Today, Spezialhärterei Werz employs more than 60 people, including seven trainees. The more than 850 customers from a wide range of metal processing and machining sectors always receive high-quality and reliable service. To this end, the experts for hardening, plasma nitriding and coating have at their disposal, among other things, eleven vacuum hardening furnaces, five micropulse plasma nitriding systems, two coating systems, the in-house laboratory and the vehicle fleet. Vacuum heat treatments offer ideal conditions for highly sensitive components from tool and mold making, plant engineering, medical technology, food technology, and aerospace.

Thanks to clean vacuum technology in combination with absolutely reproducible and documentable process sequences and the highest standards of quality assurance, the experts for hardening, plasma nitriding and coating can offer the decisive edge for their customers' products with their processes. In this field, the professionals also master numerous special processes. Since 2004, Spezialhärterei Werz has also been the world's first contract hardening shop to offer integrated deep-freezing using the Schmetz CoolPlus process. Here, deep-freezing is carried out in the vacuum hardening furnace under exclusion of any disturbing atmosphere. In contrast to the previous uncontrolled process, the experts can control and gently steer the cooling gradient. To do this, they install temperature sensors in the components. The risk of cracking, especially in complex molds, is thus eliminated - "scare tempering" is no longer necessary.

Experts for hardening, plasma nitriding and coating

Plasma nitriding offers high flexibility, reproducibility, low warpage and environmental friendliness compared to other nitriding processes. The properties under mechanical stress are mainly determined by the diffusion zone. The structure of the compound layer is decisive for the material behavior under chemical and tribological stress. The experts for hardening, plasma nitriding and coating at Spezialhärterei Werz can specifically influence both. Hardness, toughness, corrosion resistance, adhesion and abrasion properties can be varied within relatively wide limits and adjusted to suit the specific application. For hardened tools in particular, plasma nitriding provides an extremely wear-resistant surface to complement the high compressive strength.

Complex coatings expand the portfolio of Spezialhärterei Werz

In addition, Spezialhärterei Werz also offers coatings. The specialists coat TiN, TiCN and TiBN in combination and with plasma diffusion layers. Extremely large dimensions (1000 mm diameter to 1500 mm height) are possible - but they are also well equipped for small parts. With the Pi411 Plus system from Platit, which has been newly added to the machine park, the Werz special hardening shop has also been able to deposit all commercially available PVD and DLC coatings since this year. The wide range of configuration options and the flexibility achieved with round cathodes are a guarantee for the development of customer-specific coatings at the highest performance level. This system offers customers maximum flexibility and performance.
